How to Choose the Perfect Cosy Scarf

As the colder months roll in, there’s nothing quite like wrapping up in a warm, cosy scarf. But with so many choices out there, finding the perfect one can feel overwhelming. Here, we’ll guide you through everything you need to know to choose a scarf that’s warm, stylish, and suited to your needs this winter.

1. Start with the Right Material

Choosing the right material is key to finding a scarf that will keep you warm and comfortable throughout the season. Wool is one of the most popular choices for winter scarves, and for a good reason. Some people find wool coarse against their skin, so here we've listed our wool options from coarsest to softest:

  • British Wool: Best for sustainability and amazingly warm however a little coarse. Sheep raised in Britain roam hills in all-weathers which can take away the some of the softness from their wool. It has the strongest natural wool smell too.
  • Pure New Wool: This term is used for wool that is shorn from a sheep after their first shear. Sheep naturally produce this every year. Its soft and fluffy, thick and warm.
  • Merino/Lambswool: Known for its softness, merino wool is a great option if you have sensitive skin or prefer a scarf that feels light yet warm. Most of our merino wool is also lambswool, which comes from the first shearing of a sheep.
  • Cashmere/Alpaca: Offering a plush luxury feel, alpaca and cashmere wool are our softest options for scarves. These scarves a still brilliant insulators, keeping you warm, while being much softer on the skin.

Each of these options provides excellent warmth and comfort, but the right one for you depends on how you plan to use your scarf and your personal comfort preferences.

2. Consider the Size and Length

Scarves come in various sizes and lengths, and each has its own unique style and function:

  • Standard-Length Scarves are easy to wrap around once or twice, providing a clean and classic look.
  • Extra-Long Scarves allow you to layer multiple wraps around your neck, offering maximum warmth and style.
  • Oversized Scarves or blanket scarves provide an added layer of insulation and can even double as a small blanket or shawl—ideal for travel or extra-chilly days.

Choose a length and size based on how you like to wear your scarves. If you love experimenting with different ways to wrap, an extra-long scarf could be ideal. For more casual wear, a standard-length scarf may be all you need.

3. Pick Colours That Suit Your Wardrobe

Selecting a scarf colour that complements your wardrobe will ensure it gets plenty of wear. Neutral tones like grey, beige, or classic black can pair with almost any outfit and work well in both casual and formal settings. If you’re looking to make more of a statement, consider bold colours or patterns, which can add a vibrant touch to your winter ensemble. Don't forget earthy shades or rich autumn tones—think deep greens, burgundy, or orange — to feel fall ready!
